The size of this item is tempting... so many of these things are too large for a standard violin/mandolin case. It is not an electronic tuner, however, in that it does not have an input microphone and a readout which tells you whether you are sharp or flat. The add description is indeed clear on this but it needs to be repeated nonetheless. Only a person who can already tune to a given pitch can use this correctly, and it is my opinion that a standard air driven pitch pipe would serve the same purpose and cost much less.
