This is a great bass head. I have a Gretsch Catalina Club with an 18" Bass Drum. It's been tricky trying to get the sound I wanted. I kept the factory head on for awhile; it had a nice tone, but it didn't have enough attack. Then a friend recommended the EQ3. There it is. It had a greatly improved attack, yet just enough boom to be musical. Just a slight bit heavy for jazz, although it still works, great for everything else from Latin to Hip-hop. No muffling needed. Then again, if you are shoving an Afghan inside an 18" bass drum, you might as well go back to your 22" rock kit.
