"Excellent but does not last"

I have been using this head for years. I love the sound it produces, is easy to tune, etc. The big down fall to this head is that the outer ring that holds the foam ring in place BREAKS. This has happened to me with every single one I have had. I would estimate at least 25 of them I have used. When it breaks you will get a flapping noise and or type of rattle, UN WANTED SOUND. I play a DW Collectors set and I did not pay all that money to have it sound terrible from a skin that does not last. 2 months of playing is the best I have gotten. The head is not worn out at that time, it is just broken and time to spend another 36.00. I am now going to try the new Remo and see how it works. Until this new Remo came along there is no other head that can match that E MAD sound for me. I always sucked it up and got another one on the way or if I had enough money at the time and ordered 2, I would put another one on. ItÆs the price to pay for your sound. EVANS SHOULD REVAMP THIS SKIN TO MAKE THAT OUTER HOLDING RING MORE DURABLE. If they did that I would never switch. EVER. I will write a Review on the Remo vs Evans as soon as I get the new Remo skin and put it to the test.

Ok. So i have this mediochre drumset called a Royce. You've probably never heard of it. Well, me niether. My cousin got me this drumset at a moving sale for $45. Its a complete set, just really cheap. You could put it up against a CB or a Verve drumset. The kick on this kit sounded incredibly horrible. So i put one of these EMAD heads on it. Good lord, this kick is a rocket now. Seriously, now i put my kick up against my buddies' Tama all-birch Starclassic. Blows his kick out of the water(his head is a Remo PInstripe). I've had the head on there for about 6 months, I play everyday, and the only wear on it is the kick-pad is shredded and the head has a large beater dent in it. But thats after 6 months of severely hard double pedal playing( I have lead-feet ). I'm buying a new one today, and I'm confident it'll last me at least another 5-6 months of playing shows, band practice, and personal practice. This is by-far the best kick drum head available.

I play a Gretsch Catalina Club, with the 18 bass. Replacing the standard head with the EMAD is like adding inches to the size of the drum. The coated one-ply Evans the kit came with is a decent head, but the drum tended to sound like a floor tom on its side, especially when played with some force. With the EMAD, I now have a grown-up booming bassdrum with the bottom end expected from much larger shells. Sweet! The the local musicstore recommended this head in combination with a EQ muffling pad, but even the small ring gives me enough control over the sound. The muffling pad on a 18 bass fitted with the EMAD is a waste. That's how good this head is.

"Great Sound!!"

Amazing!!! So, I played with an EQ3 head and loved the sound but I figured I’d try the EMAD head to see what it could do. I put this on yesterday and tuned it up just prior to playing and I must say this is the single best sounding head I’ve used. No need for pillows or foam dampening because the adjustable rings does it for you. Much more depth then any head I’ve used. What I really liked was that I no longer have to worry about snare rattle. Usually I’d need to tune and adjust for the snare but after I put this on, I could loosen or tighten the snare with no rattle. My only concern would be the comments people have posted about this head not lasting but we’ll see. I put it on 08/11/09 and I’ll re-post if and when it breaks. But for now, I’m lovin’ the thing.

"Does wonders"

This drum head is awesome. I have a 18x14 bass drum, and it has some guts to it now cause of this head. Never had any problems with it and I love it. Once I got it on and tuned it good, I fell in love with the sound and wanted to play my drums even more.
