I just bought this guitar about a week ago and all I have to say is amazing all around from the look, to the sound to the way it plays. The neck felt alot longer because the cut away is so far down. But I wouldn't call it a flaw I got used to it in about 10 minutes and actually prefer it now. The jumbo frets make it feel so smooth. I have a 50watt Traynor tube amp. When I throw this bad boy in to its clean channel it roars.
The guitar has a great vintage sound and look.
I ordered this guitar five months ago and waited patiently for it to arrive from backorder. It was worth it. Epiphone makes good guitars. They truly do. I have owned many, many guitars including Gibson SG's. Honestly speaking the only guitar that compares to the Iommi is a nicely upgraded G-400 with maybe Burstbucker pickups. This guitar is a better feeling/sounding instrument than Gibson Sg's with the exception of the '61 SG. The epi has the '62 neck that is so nice and sweet to play. It feels really good. The Iommi pickups are truly clear and pack a great punch. They are nice for metal but are also solid for clean sounds...can you say blues? This guitar is blues friendly. The fretboard is rosewood but it is darker than the pictures show. The crosses are extremely nice. They are of decent size and flare at the wings and base just like Tony's ax. Though they are not giant crosses, they are not tiny either. They stand out and look sharp. The frets on this guitar are super nice. They compare with Gibson closer than any Guitar I've seen. The strings are nice and upgraded from the regular G400. Controls are responsive and tuners are solid. It came nearly perfectly set up. I tuned up and rolled out the riffs. Well worth the wait. Think about it...the G400 costs $349 + upgraded pickups $121 each = $222 + inlay/cross work very nicely done = $120 so the total is near =$691.00 So, it's worth the money. If you like Iommi and the SG's, buy this unit. It sounds just like the Gibson Iommi without a doubt.
I have been playing guitar for 15 years and have a large selection of guitars including Gibson Les Paul and Gibson double neck SG, but this guitar just took my breath away the first second I started playing it. Saying this guitar is amazing is an understatement. Let me tell you, this guitar is better than a Gibson SG standard. Believe me, I've played both of them for a long time. The machine heads on this guitar are better than the Gibson SG. It just wont go out of tune. It's fantastic. The only metal guitar that is better on performance than the Tony Iommi G400 is somewhere in the range of 3,000 dollars.
The guitar is just so awesome. The pickups are amazing. it's not heavy at all. Very nice look, and great sound. This is definitely the best guitar that I have ever played.
