I just picked mine up today, after waiting exactly 3 months for it. I've wanted a Les Paul for years and liked the look (mostly the price) of this one. I have to say, I'm not in the least bit disappointed! Playability, looks, craftsmanship all exceeded expectations. The neck speed kicks. That fact that it only weighs about 5.5 lbs doesn't hurt, either!
I wasn't expecting this guitar to sound to good for metal and heavier types of music. But the Epiphone Les Paul ultra proved me wrong. I use a pretty crappy death metal distortion. But it sounds flawless with this guitar. The pick ups are great to. Eventually I will probably replace them with EMG's. But I recommend this guitar to ANYBODY, who plays ANY TYPE of music.
I just got my LP Ultra from Music 123 and I can't put it down. Really light for a Les Paul and the neck is slim and fast. The frets are smooth. The Grover tuners are great. The sound is a Les Paul but a little bluesier. You can even hear it playing unplugged. The pickups are good but not as good as Gibson but you don't expect that for this price. The finish is outstanding and the contoured back is very comfortable. The only bad points the jack is cheap and keeps getting loose, The bell knobs were pushed so far down I could not turn them and my bottom e string was broken. Change the jack and strings and maybe switch to speed knobs and everything is 5 stars. Get one if you can find it almost everyone has them backordered, Its an awesome addition to your collection.
I have owned many guitars over the years and some very expensive ones at that. But I never had a Les Paul and decided based on reviews I had read and the price to give this one a try. EXCELLENT guitar!!! The craftsmanship is excellent. Binding and wood are flawless and frets are perfect. Guitar is GORGEOUS and was even set up PERFECT right out of the box. Intonation was perfect and action was just right. Maybe just a TAD higher than what I'm used to but it also ships with 10-46 strings I am used to 9-42 so that may be the difference. I will keep the 10's on there though it sounds too HUGE. The guitar has sustain for days and the tones are great. Those holes inside really must do something...very astonishing clean tones and when you play distorted it does the job too. I was leary that with the hollow chambers it may not do "metal" too well but I can get the Pantera/Metallica chunk just as easy as the Peavey Wolfgang Standard I sold a while back. VERY hot pickups. Squeals are no problem. I love it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This guitar is amazing. I first got a Fender telecaster, and that guitar is good, but it is heavy. The Les Paul ultra I like rather than any other because it is light, the neck has a good feel to it, it looks nice in any color ( especially black) and is the best guitar ever.
