A few years back I purchased a gold-top, shortly after they were introduced. I have since put my original 68 Paul" away. This guitar plays and sounds great. Add a cry baby wah and I have that original sound the 60's and 70's. Joe B.

I have had one of these for a while and I love it. The distortion is very good, and the clean channel is very impressive. It looks cool, sounds nice, and isn't as expensive as a lot of other guitars and it even sounds better then a lot of them.

This is a really great guitar. It has great tone on the clean channel and also has lots of good deep distortion. I like a very crunchy low sounding distortion. The 56 gold top handles this very well. The pickups are what you would expect from a quality guitar.

Love this guitar.. The P-90s sound almost exactly like my Gibson P-90s. Maybe a little less junky character if anything, and a higher output level. Through an Art Power Plant (get one used, they don't make them anymore) this guitar sounds amazing on tape- and in the distortion channel it creates the most picturesque and huge rock sound ever. So detailed and dense, and just perfectly balanced. I've been experimenting with distortion and clean guitar sounds forever, had 2 Gibson Les Pauls and many Strats, found the P-90 years ago and will never go back to the small single coil or humbucker. This guitar with this pickup is probably the most incredible sounding guitar I've found. Great action, fast neck. HEEAAVVY but you knew that. I recommend it to anyone.

I must admit that this guitar did not come setup well and getting the P-90's properly adjusted was a bit of a trial. After giving this guitar the full treatment it now plays and sounds just as good as it looks. This guitar will give you the wonderful vintage and blues tones that you expect from 1956 reissue with the name Les Paul on it. It will also growl for you on demand with a little gain. At high gain and the tone cranked low you can get that old Dire Straights "Money for nothin" and the chicks for free sound. The pickups are surprisingly articulate and I will NOT be replacing them as I expected to do when I purchased this guitar. The guitar has very good sustain and is just a tad lighter than a Gibson Les Paul. Comes with grover tuners and excellent bridge and tail stop hardware. I stress that this is not a first guitar for a beginner, but a great guitar to take an experienced player back to their musical roots - and then on to the next level. Get the Epiphone Les Paul 1956 Gold top, give it the time, love, and care to set it up properly, and then let it open your mind to new musical sounds and ideas.

The Epiphone '56 goldtop is a wonderful electric guitar, performing way beyond any other electric guitar! Even her big brother, Gibson, has a hard time keeping up with her! There is no other guitar that will give you the class and unique sound this guitar gives. I recommend this electric guitar way beyond any other. She performs just as well as a Gibson, maybe better, and is at least a forth its price! She's a star....

I wanted a P-90 guitar, and was considering a Gibson faded double cut Les Paul, but just couldn't justify getting a guitar without a real finish, so thought I'd give the Epi a try. I'm glad I did. This guitar sounds great. Great clean sound, great distorted sound. I kid you not, this guitar sounds every bit as good as my Gibson Les Paul standard with Burstbuckers. Also, my guitar came with Grover tuners, not the green plastic ones shown on the picture. Give this guitar a chance, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Buy the hardshell case, it's worth it.

This is the most versitale guitar I've ever played and I've played most from a-z. You defenantly get good tone in whatever style you play. I've had mine about nine months and no problems at all. Pictures really don't do the guitar justice as far as looks it's when your holding it does it look absolutly amazing. This guitar is worth the money
