One word: Wow. This guitar looks awesome, plays awesome, and feels awesome. The chrome alnico pickups can achieve an incredible array of sounds, and they look a whole lot nicer than plain black double-coil humbuckers. The trapezoid inlays are a great touch, and the heritage cherry finish is absolutely stellar. This was hands-down the best-looking and probably best-playing guitar in the whole music shop. The guy there, who's been playing for 7 years now (a whole lot longer than me), plugged it in to a monster Marshall amp (Angus style!) and played it beautifully. He was able to get sounds ranging from blazing Metallica speed metal riffs to powerful, bluesy AC/DC riffs to softer, acoustic-sounding notes akin to the beginning of Metallica's "Fade to Black." Even grungy Nirvana-style music sounds great on this guitar. He said that he was personally thinking of picking this guitar up himself! I know this is going to be the guitar I spend the next several years playing! If you can AFFORD a Gibson '62 Reissue, then go for it and more power to you, but this Gibson-authorized Epiphone SG comes mighty close to a Gibson and costs literally a fraction as much.

I simply cannot understand why this guitar has not displaced the beloved "Strat" as the #1 Rock guitar! (My guess is marketing and production capability - not to mention that whammy bar thingy) Not that a strat is a bad guitar, but this baby is sooooo sweet to play. The tones are wonderful and the control one has over the music is great. The neck seems easier to fret than a Strat or Tele. It can sound like the twangiest Tele you ever heard! And can make those Strat noises with equal ease. I see why Angus Young, Tony Iommi, and Peter Townshend, all play SG's. The feel and comfort of the body is fantastic and the P/Ups on this baby make it really sit up and bark. Plus you get that Les Paul type deep tone if you want it. It's a much better choice than a MIM Strat for your basic guitar. I have all three (a Strat a Tele and a G-400) and lately I've been playing this one with more and more frequency because it's just more flexible. Quality of fit and finish are superb. You will not hate yourself if you buy one of these. Don't listen to the Strat crowd. Get the Epi. This is one great value if you looking for a great guitar AND a great price! Top Notch all the way. I'm kinda glad not everybody has one.
