If your are looking for the guitar that can do it all, THE DOT is IT. The Dot can do any style of music with its versatile sound. I would recommend this to a beginner or an advanced guitar player. You cant go wrong with this guitar.
I bought a Dot in turquoise colour. A very rare edition of this beautiful guitar. The action is very low and the tone is marvelous. What a guitar ! And the price...super !
Overall I think this guitar is only fair. I does look great, sounds ok but again just fair. Mine had a fairly severe intonation problem. When the low E string was tuned dead on the 3rd fret G was sharp really sharp about a full half note. The 12th string harmonics were ok.
I bought a "B" stock dot in April, and can't find a thing wrong with it. I set the action down a bit, and play it 1 to 4 gigs a week. Sounds great through my Princeton 65. I play 50s&60s dances a couple times a month, using the dot, an original 65 Super Reverb, and an old Echoplex. I get tons of questions and compliments. The Dot is replacing a Gretsch I guess I wore out. Couldn't be more happy with it.
I play rhythm in an oldies band, and up until two weeks ago, used a Casino through a Crate Vintage Club (all tube) 6212 combo amp. I've always wanted a 335 for the humbucking sound and sustain, but never could justify the expense. So I finally tried the Dot at a local music store and was very impressed. Mine is Cherry, made in China, and is perfect...there are no flaws. The curly maple used on the front can be seen through the finish, and it is gorgeous. The sound is very close the the 335's I've auditioned through the years. Our lead player is a Les Paul man, but when I showed up for practice with the Dot, he wanted to try it. What a mistake! He told me to play the Paul at our next concert and he wanted to lead with the Dot. Whether he finger-picked it, strummed it, or made it scream, the Dot was just breathtaking through the old tube amp. After the show I had to wrench it away from him...he had fallen in love with it! We don't use any effects or pedals in our group, and just use foot switches to select clean or distortion channels on our vintage amps. We have a sound man who sets the amps between numbers. The Dot is a versatile, clean, hard-working and reliable asset that I would recommend to any group that does our style of music.
