Received this as a gift. Oh my God! There is nothing this guitar cannot do. You want warm mellow jazzy sounds? You got it! Flip the Varitone knob and you've got pure blues pouring from this instrument. Give it another turn and you've got a Rock n' soul feel that reeks of Motown, and funk. BB is a tone genius for putting all of the little nuances into this axe. Simply the best guitar I have ever owned in my 22 years of playing.
I have had my "Lucille" for about 14 months and fell in love with it from day one. The features are great and it is so comfortable to play. The only thing I would change is to make the neck width at the nut just slightly wider.
First, the fit and finish was better than I have grown to expect at this price point. Nice binding, near flawless Ebony finish. (One time over with a swirl and haze remover resulted in a near Custom Shop finish) In lay work is nice and tight fitting, but they use plastic in the neck $$$. Grover tuners prove up to the task and the tail fine tuner is awesome! I want one on all my hard tails now. Not too heavy, can hang her for a set with out problems. The guitar has very good action with frets about the same size as my Am. Dlx. Strat. (med. Jumbo)neck shape is comfortable , but this axe was made for lead picking. Chording on the upper register is near impossible for me. I have decent size hands. Most certainly is a "slim taper" style neck. Fast, good action, but tight at the top for chords. The electronics; pots work well with a nice linear curve and just the right tension. The varitone is a delight allowing a pallet of tones from driving and full, to scooped like to Tele-ish sparkle. I like this option. The PUP's are OK, almost. Nice sounding and articulate at lower volume's but increasingly muddy as you turn her up. If you are playing Jazz/Pop your OK here. I changed mine out to a USA Gibson 57 Classic in the neck and a 57 Plus at the bridge. This change has made this my go to ax!! Just WOW. Other players have commented on many occasions on the tone I get from this guitar using a tube screamer, wah, delay and a Fender Blues Deluxe with a Weber speaker. GREAT GREAT tone, I recommend this upgrade. It makes a good sounding guitar (with standard Epi DOT PUP's) an amazing toned guitar!!! I would get another if this one was lost. If the PUP's were a bit nicer, this would be a solid 5...I give her a 4-1/2, strong ax at this price point.
I've had this guitar for a month now. It's absolutely perfect. The sound is incredibly rich, The looks are simply dazzling, the finish is great, the action is great. The neck and fretboard are the perfect size. This may sound stupid, but I've compared it to the Gibson model, and I liked this one better, at less than half the price!!! It just doesn't get any better. It's a little heavy, so use a comfortable strap.
Oh man-this was given to me as a Christmas gift, and I have not put it down since. It has brought me hours of enjoyment with my band.
