The Emerson piccolo with two headjoints is a great buy! The resonance produced by the plastic headjoint is a dark, somber sound that attempts to duplicate that of wood. (Comes very close, too!) The brilliant sound produced by the silver-plated headjoint is awesome and projects brilliantly in an outdoor situation. The ease of the mechanism, quick response, and tonal qualities make this piccolo a real bargain for those on a budget...or those who are not. The one drawback is the case. The wells for the body and both headjoints are a bit too shallow--they should have been larger and deeper because the fit is far too snug. The case is compact, but making a larger case to accommodate both headjoints and the body more effectively should be considered!I highly recommend this piccolo to anyone considering purchasing a piccolo. I have two students who have done so and they truly enjoy theirs. You will, too!
Being a high school marching band and classroom student, I needed a piccolo that would be flexible indoors and out. I bought the Emerson picc that came with two headjoints. The richness of tone that came out of this picc was utterly amazing the first time I played it with the plastic headjoint, the projection was amazing with the metal headjoint, and the intonation of both was perfect. The fact that I could choose headjoints according to the setting I was in was a benefit; both headjoints are in the same case, and I paid just a little more to get both headjoints. This picc is a must have for all intermediate high school marchers and ensemble doublers.
I bought the Emerson piccolo with the plastic and silver heads. It is so nice to have an option as to which headjoint to use for outdoor and indoor performances. I totally recommend this piccolo.
I ordered both this one and the Gemeinhardt p4 piccolo and found this one had a much darker tone and less airy tone than the P4 picc. A great picc for the price!
