ELIXIR Guitar Strings Feature POLYWEB Coating, a unique high technology polymer that provides increased protection of wound strings from perspiration, dirt, and body oils, and still provides great sound.

Elixir Light Top/Medium Bottom Polyweb Acoustic Guitar Strings
Gauges 12-16-24-35-45-56.

Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings are covered with an ultrathin, space-age polymer tube that contacts the string on the tops of the windings only. This leaves the all-important winding-to-winding-to-core space free from the fear of the enemies of tone! No more gunk and goo. No more DNA evidence. No kidding.

Elixirs are the first major innovation in guitar strings in over forty years, and deliver what they promise: great tone and long life no matter what you put them on or how often you play.

"Nice tone but a little too slick"

I play guitar constantly in my spare time (between 5 - 15/wk). My preferred style is 12-Bar Blues; with a little funk therefore I put a lot of wear and tear on strings, which will usually last 1 to 2 months (I play a Fender Acoustic). I just bought these strings purely out of curiosity as I usually go for the Martin Lights BUT I do find them a little too slick for my uses as I like the added benefit of having the ridge to grip on to for bends and pulls. However they do sound really clear and crisp. I have been told that if you like the feel of a normal string without all the finger noise you should opt for the Elixir Nanos (I will try these the next time) as they tend to have a bit more of a grip to them. Keep playing!

I am so happy with my elixer polywebs that I don't think I'll ever put anything else on my guitar. They have a beautiful rich tone that last and lasts. They reduce finger noise and are very comfortable to play. I'll never play anything else again!

"Not quite worth the money."

I'm not a fan of the Elixirs, as they tend to be very hit-or-miss. One package will be fine, and then the next will fray and snap in no time. It really makes no sense that a set of strings as costly as these would have problems like this, and it's clear that Elixir has serious quality control issues. There are many varieties of strings that are cheaper, more reliable, and frankly, have better tone. The Elixirs are way too bright, a little bit jangly. All in all, not what I look for in a set of strings. They are fine enough strings, just not worth the money in my opinion.

"Great sound and feel, bad breaks"

I love the feel and sound quality of these strings, unfortunately I have experienced some breaks (mostly D & G) on my 714 ce Taylor. It seems I'm not alone.

Anyone trying to learn chords has to buy Elixirs. I got the Custom Lights and put them on my Ibanez PF6 that I think had some medium weight D'Addarios on it. The volume instantly doubled and the low strings--especially E(6) and A(5) stand up and ring now. Before anything mid and below was dull and flat (could have been old strings... don't know, this is my first guitar). Anyway, who cares? The play and comfort are what really matter. I was tearing my hands apart trying to force my fingers to reluctantly practice chords. It takes very little pressure to make chords ring true. I honestly could not get a basic A chord to sound right on the old strings--and my action is fine. I was suddenly able to go back and play songs that gave me trouble cause I couldn't get A's or C's to ever sound good. This made learning very frustrating.(and painful) If you're new and learning don't even ponder it. Drop the $12 and do yourself a favor.
