Electro-Voice N/D767a Dynamic Supercardioid Vocal Microphone
General Product Description

The new N/D767a presents optimal performance in a live sound environment. The 767a vocal microphone utilizes EV's new VOB(TM) (vocally optimized bass) technology to provide the performer with reduced low-end distortion and eliminates the muddiness found in other microphones. Combined with EV's industry first neodymium based magnet structure, the new N/D767a offers the power and clarity to "cut through the mix."

Operation
The low frequency response of the N/D767a microphone varies with the distance from the sound source. Known as "proximity effect," maximum bass response is produced in "close-up" use with the microphone 1/4 inch from the sound source. Normal bass response is experienced with working distances greater than 24 inches. Working close to the microphone will produce a more robust sound. Close up positioning of the microphone will also reduce the potential for feedback from the sound reinforcement system. When close-talked, the bass-boost provides an increase in overall microphone output level. The mixer gain may be proportionately reduced, resulting in a reduction of the system's sensitivity to feedback caused by sound entering the microphone from the loudspeakers.

Microphone Use and Placement
Please note that micing techniques are a matter of personal preference. These are merely guidelines to assist in the placement of the microphone to gain optimal performance.

Vocals:
Zero to six inches from the windscreen, and on axis with the microphone.

Spoken Word:
Five to ten inches from the windscreen, and on axis with microphone.

I don't use anything else. It always cuts through without feedback. Carry 2 spares in case. Clarity and punch, for a vocalist that's very important.

This mic is a lot like a very fast sports car. A lot of fun and very good at what it does, however if you don't know what you are doing with a mic it can get you into trouble in a hurry. It's pick up pattern is very sensitive to change. If you are one of these that lets the mic position wander on you, DO NOT BUY IT. However if you know how to move a mic around just a little to get the effects you want it is a beauty. Handling noise is non-existent and you can't break the thing up. If you want bass response this is your baby. Oddly enough, with the great bass response and boost this mic has, if you check the specs it will out handle most any mic out there in upper end also. We use 5 of these in a Gospel group and it handles everything from our bass singer to our super high sopranos. I have yet to see anyone cause this mic to clip. But remember, if it's going to be your first mic, buy something a little more forgiving.

Got this to use with a Karaoke add-on to my existing PA system. Glad I did. It really makes everyone who uses it shine (in some cases not so nice) through. I take it with me when I do a guest spot at a Karaoke bar and plug it in in place of the house mike. WOW, what a difference it makes. The clarity is totally awesome! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this mike to anyone. I also own an EV PL77A condenser mic which I purchased in 1980. I mention that because it is still working fabulously. Been dropped on the cement floor from the stage once and on the floor a couple of other times. Not a problem has ever occurred with it. I expect the same great hardiness from the EV 767. EV just makes great products!

When I first used this mic some years ago I was completely sold. however, after much experience with this and other top mics I am less thrilled by it. The very things I liked about it at first now bother me. too hot, frequently hits the peak I suspect at just certain frequencies. Difficult to use with other mics. Very sharp presence which I find unnatural and grating at times. But it does really cut thru like no other. If you have a crappy system this will seem like a magic mic, if you have a very revealing system this mic will anoy you to no end.
