Purchased this item recently and was really amazed, considering my experiences with E-MU since Creative took them over. This guy is actually worth the money and in particular, the studio grand is fantastic. Pay attention to the system requirements - I had to build another computer to run this thing.
I bought this about 6 months after I bought a closeout Boss BR-532 digital multitrack. No comparison soundwise. The sound quality of this is way better. Of course, you have to buy a lot more recording tools than with the Boss. After a while, I questioned the sound clarity of the card, but the cheap budget mics and preamps that I was using were the culprit. Now I use a Groove Tubes GT55 mic and a Joe Meek preamp and I record a great clear vocal signal. I went from real amps to a PODxt and a SansampGT2 for bass and get great low noise bass and guitar recording as well. I'm doing it all myself, so I don't need lots of inputs. The drums I use are samples. I would spend more money, but I'm not sure it would give me better results since I'm using a high quality stand-alone preamp anyway. A lot of what you pay for in more expensive interfaces is the preamps. You can hear songs I've recorded with this card at www.myspace.com/ozymandias3 to hear what it can do. If you can find a better sounding soundcard, please let me know. I'll buy it.
Since I basically do home recording, this card was perfect for my intended use. With the latest patch you can record at 192khz! Sound quality is excellent compared to any of the gaming cards available. I also use this card for inputting voiceovers in Premiere Pro. I have yet to find any incompatibility or stability issues. I am running WindowsXP on a P4 3.2ghz PC with 2gb of RAM. I haven't owned a 17" or smaller monitor in over four years, so I can't comment about the problems other users have. I'm using a 19" Viewsonic LCD for my display. From a home studio standpoint, I highly recommend it!
I have one of these, and I love it! If you have normal recording needs and easily met minimal standard equipment (19" monitor), this card will be a blast! I'm going to buy another one!
