The Whammy 4 has the same smooth pitch bends, rich detuning, accurate dive bombs, and fast tracking harmony shifts that made the original Whammy pedal such a popular and indispensable effect. DigiTech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control
Digitech Whammy 4

While fads and fashions may come and go, the true classics will always be in demand.
It's been nearly a decade since DigiTech introduced the mind-bending effects of the Whammy pedal to the world, and that original design has been in demand ever since. The same smooth pitch bends, rich detuning, accurate dive bombs, and fast tracking harmony shifts, which were responsible for the instant success of the original Whammy pedal have been resurrected in the new incarnation of the DigiTech Whammy™ Pedal. Painstaking efforts were made to recreate the exact sounds that made the DigiTech Whammy such a popular and indispensable effect.

Every feature of the original WH-1 has been included in the new Whammy;
From the rotary preset selection knob, to the Ferrari red color; From the mechanical momentary switch, to the exact same interval selections. However, the new Whammy has added the versatility of MIDI control making this timeless effect flexible enough for any situation. The Dive Bomb Preset gives the effect of a Floyd Rose whammy bar pushed all the way to the body of the guitar, and 16 LEDs provide a visual indication of your Preset selection even on dimly lit stages.

I use a lot of effex in my rig from wah to delay to flang and so fourth, but my favorite is my WHAMMY! I try not to overkill it at gigs but in rehearsals I cut sick with it. I say any guitarist with a passion such as mine, to make an audience spin out in what and how the hell your creating those sounds from a guitar should go invest in a DigiTech WHAMMY cause I know she'll always be in my set up!

Adds a whole new sound to the music, and a lot of control in the pitch. Very cool to play around with, but not good to use for every song.

Please note that this is NOT a wah pedal. It doesn't even have the same effect at all. Wah pedals do not change the pitch of your guitar, they change the peak response of a filter in frequency, creating the "wah" sound. Think of the whammy pedal as bending the notes, only much more extensively, and being controlled by a pedal. A whammy pedal does not replace a wah pedal, because they are two completely different things.These are cool to use when playing/writing songs with loop samplers. You can create bass parts, and really make the song sound full/complete. Jack White uses this pedal extensively in the White Stripes. Not only in songs like Seven Nation Army, and Hardest Button to Button, but a lot in the live shows. He plays really cool solos with it's high octave feature. Very cool pedal.

I just recently blew all of my money on this for a RATM song. It is a great investment, many harmonizer settings and whammy pitch shifts. Its great to have your own unique sounds created with this pedal. Spend 30 minutes with this pedal and you will fall in love with it! Nothing else like it.

I originally bought this pedal when it first came out for a whopping $399 USD. My cousin took it overseas and tried to use it and fried it. So I recently bought another one. It's worth having if you know how to use it. This pedal, can and usually does eliminate the need for an extra guitarist with the harmonist effects! And man, do they sound good running thru a Digi MM. I don't lose any tone at all, despite the other reviews. It's really depends on where you put this pedal in your chain I guess. But its really worth it. I use the pitch shifts in conjunction with my Floyd Rose, and double the pitch bends! It'll make the dogs yelp I SWEAR. If you want to do duel guitars without the need for another guitar who is maybe not up to your level, buy this pedal. Buy two! It's worth it for all genres of music, not just metal!
