I owned a Digitech ValveFX since the 90's. It went *KABOOM!* a few months ago (luckily during rehearsal rather than a gig), so I dragged out the old stomp boxes to make do....which they didn't. PROS: I played through the GSP1101 at NAMM last year and was impressed--it's much easier to tweak than the ValveFX and has higher quality patches. I finally coughed up for the 1101 and got it a couple of weeks ago. I quickly dialed in my distortion, chorus patches and was off and running! My sound guy is really impressed with the tone--he noticed the difference right away. I use a MIDI footpedal and the MIDI setup was a breeze. CONS: The noise gate is a little troublesome--difficult to dial in, and I'm still working with the wah to get something that isn't so thin and washed out. The X-edit software is a great tool, but it's a little buggy, and there's some digital noise in the audio output when you have the USB port connected to your computer (even when the USB=>Audio Out setting is turned off). SUMMARY: The GSP1101 is pricey but worth every penny in the end.
