The Golden Era banjo is a unique model of the Deering line. It's designed to reproduce the most sought-after five-string banjos of the pre-war era. The unique features of the Golden Era are the thicker neck shape which creates more sustain and the deeper resonator which provides that warm gutsy tone. Includes a free Traditional Hardshell case,a $180 value!
  • 20-hole tone ring
  • Three-ply rock maple rim
  • Curly maple neck and resonator
  • Hearts-and-flowers mother-of-pearl inlays
  • Ebony fingerboard

Golden Era Five String

Powerhouse Banjo
We use an Ebony fingerboard and the flame Eastern hard rock maple of the neck and resonator are stained with a cremona sunburst stain. Mother-of-pearl inlays are the traditional "Hearts and Flowers" pattern.

The Maple rim is turned to traditional dimensions and mounted with a zinc flange, twenty-hole virgin bell bronze tone-ring and presto style tailpiece with careful attention to original dimensions to recreate the sound and performance traditionalists desire

You can hear the sound of the Golden Era banjo on many albums by fine musicians such as John Hickman and Byron Berline's "Double Trouble" album, Josh Williams' "Old Town of Home" album, and on Herb Pedersen's Desert Rose Band album, "Life Goes On".

Deering banjos with the lifetime warranty are only available through authorized Deering Dealers.

IF YOU BUY A "NEW" DEERING BANJO FROM A NON-AUTHORIZED DEALER, YOU HAVE PURCHASED A USED BANJO AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. When we send a Deering banjo to an authorized dealer, only that dealer or another authorized dealer can sell that banjo as new. If an authorized dealer sells a new Deering banjo to a non-authorized dealer, the non authorized dealer becomes the first owner and he becomes the bearer of the lifetime warranty; not a new dealer by transfer. When the unauthorized dealer sells that banjo to the consumer, even if it was never played or even touched, it is a used instrument and no longer carries the lifetime warranty. This is necessary so that we know how the banjo has been cared for between the time we ship it and the time that our customers buy it. We have no way of knowing how non-authorized dealers care for their instruments because we do not communicate with them. This also honors and protects the strong relationship between Deering and its treasured network of hard working Deering dealers. For your protection against theft and to ensure immediate proof of ownership, four digits of the serial number are visible on the back of the peghead on each banjo. The full serial number is inside the resonator. When you purchase a Deering banjo and send in the warranty card you will receive a Gold Credit card style ownership/warranty card. This gold card is embossed with your name and the serial number of your new banjo for easy identification. Take your Gold Card with you to festivals or when traveling so that if your banjo is ever stolen you can easily prove it's yours.

I bought this model banjo back in December and have been more than happy with it. I bought it from music123 and their service was timely and great. The only complaint I have about the banjo is that it was not set up very well when I received it. The head was very loose, and the tuners were not tightened. I also believe that Deering should start putting railroad spikes for the 5th string a standard feature, but that's a personal opinion.

I've had my Golden Era for almost 4 years now, and I couldn't be happier with it. I play traditional southern Appalachian clawhammer and this banjo captures that 30's/40's era Wade Ward sound perfectly. It's loud and the tone is just amazing. I compared it to many other models when I was shopping around and it easy stood out as the best sounding banjo I could find. I like the sound MUCH better than any of the Gibsons I've ever played, and to me, it sounds better for the Old Time music than any of the open back banjos I've heard or played. Full bodied, round tone, with punch and definition.
