Sure there are better guitars out there, but for the price it plays excellent. I really don't think that there is a better buy out there, it is a great guitar for intermediate guitar players.

I just got it, classic black - beautiful! (I had my doubts before) Sounds great! (though I have some string rattle on the lower 3 strings -D A E- that I have yet to fix) It has a long, deep, sustain, almost like a set neck.The pickups sound really good (to be standard ones), tough it lacks some space between them, just to get a substantially different tone.I definitely would buy a Dean again (but next time with a set neck).The great CON is the neck is not well centered, the higher e is so close to the edge of the neck that if you apply a substantial amount of force to it, you will pull it by the edge, and end up sounding horrible.

From the minute I picked up this ax I felt good about it. But once I played "Paranoid" on it, I was in love. On this guitar I can do simple punk tunes or solo-filled shred metal songs. It is worth the relatively small price that it is.

I play in a prog/power metal band and got this guitar as a backup instrument. Well, switching from a $1300 guitar to this wasn't so bad. The tone is really good, very comparable to the Gibson/Epiphone models at fraction of the price. The back of the neck needed some more sanding but for the price that was nothing to whine about.
