The "Backwoods 12" one of lifes little pleasures in the world of sound. The quality is excellent and far better than I expected. A great live sound and a band behind you will improve it to no end. I'm looking forward to recording with it what a thrill this will be. About the looks; what can I say but "WoW!!!" Thank you for something this great!

When the eagerly awaited package arrived a day early, I was delighted. The undamaged shipping container appeared to be almost bullet-proof. Internal buffering materials created the perfect bed for the Dean Backwoods 6 Banjo. Picking up the instrument was a revelation. The look and feel of high quality of the manufacture and beautiful aesthetic finish were a delight. The clear-coat luster of the resonator revealed the wonderful wood back. The neck felt comfortable and smooth and the fretboard inlays were tasteful and well done. After placing the bridge at the location indicated by the temporary sticker on the head, it was raised in place. After doing the initial tune-up, I removed the resonator to examine the innards. I was amazed to find the very substantial aluminum frame, which had been designed to be not only sturdy, but very nicely machined to enhance the overall appearance of the instrument. The banjo head was perfectly installed, and the adjustment tools were provided, if needed. Tuning the six strings is the same as tuning my guitars. After the initial tune, I went to lunch. When I returned , the strings had already set in and needed only slight adjustment. Playing the instrument is a joy. The powerful ringing banjo sound evokes memories of an earlier age. One revelation was that doing bends works well on the top three strings but not on the lower (stouter) three strings. After all, we are not dealing with a solid body under the bridge. I can see that finger picking will be lots of fun. The string height is fine, with no buzz. I wouldn't recommend using a gig bag for any banjo, because of the relatively fragile nature of the head and the movable bridge. I acquired the Dean (very) hard case for the instrument and it fits like a glove. My Dean Backwoods 6 Banjo is admired by all as a thing of beauty. The high quality and sound of the instrument.promise to provide years of happy service.

"Sweet sound for a guitar player that doesn't have the time to learn a new instrument!"

This banjo is the perfect thing for my bluegrass playing as a guitar player. Sometimes you will have two guitar players show up to a jam, but no banjo. Not anymore! Now you can play both, and not even have to learn any thing different from guitar!!!
