Why Buy

The Hite Artist Bb clarinet mouthpiece is best known for its superior intonation patterns and comfort throughout the entire range of the instrument. The balance of carefully designed and produced dimensions and facings gives the Hite Artist mouthpieces their extreme flexibility.

David Hite 121-D Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
The "D" model mouthpiece is the original (ca. 1980) Hite interior design, which is closely aligned with the traditional classic orchestral facing. The mouthpiece balances well with a Vandoren No. 4 or Vandoren V-12 No. 31/2 reed (or comparable). Compared to the "M41" model, which has the identical facing, the "D" internal dimensions tend to produce a darker, rounder tonal character.

I'm so glad that I've found the J&D Hite model J mouthpiece! The ease of blowing is simply amazing. The only thing that I wish was different was the price that I bought it at in the store - 30 bucks more than at WWBW!

Here we have a fine group of mouthpieces, and the price is on target. The H facing goes great with the thicker reeds, and the M allows for enhanced projection and allows ease of playing the upper register. I have not tried the more open tip model nor the original D facing. He two facings I tried compare well to the Blayman and Lomax offerings and beat the outrageously priced Pyne by a long shot. Of course this is subject, but if money matters, go for the Hite and count your change.

I bought a M model a year ago, and i love the sound that it produces. It has a round, full, and pretty compact sound. It is great for orchestral work, yet flexible enough for any other type music. It is very easy to play sticados on this mouth piece. And it also has a very stable tone in the third register. This is truly a great mouth piece. ;)

I bought the M facing Mouthpiece for my Leblanc Sonata, and I thought that the tone was absolutely clear along with the quick response. I would definitely recommend it to any serious high school musician.

I have played professionally as an orchestral clarinetist for over 15 years. What is impressive with the D facing is the depth of sonority without sacrificing the pitch. I have not met a person with the knowledge of mouthpiece making quite like David Hite. In the Beethoven 6 I performed, I received a bow for my contribution. I also know it is an advantage to have such a knowledgeable and innovative design like the Hite. It only compares to my old Henri Chedeville!!
