Danelectro Reel Echo Tape Simulator Pedal
Reel Echo Tape Simulator

Dano simulates the sound perfectly and adds a Warble switch to simulate tape pitch deviations. A Lo-Fi control rolls off high frequencies of successive repeats just like tape while a Tube/Solid State toggle lets you pick your vintage. The Sound on Sound button works just like the original so you can play over the lick you just recorded. Up to 1.5 seconds of delay.

Great...It really simulates the 50's and 60's echos.I have a copicat (valve) and this pedal sounds the same. Not only are the echos the same the valve sound is good too.It is a must if you want something that gives you echos.HazzaEnjoy

I found this unit very entertaining and high-quality. The mix knob controls the ratio between the main signal and the echo; minimum allows just the main signal and maximum allows just the echo and 12 o'clock is equal between the two signals. The Lo-Fi knob is quite neat. It controls the frequency of the echo only, just like the tone knob on a guitar. The repeat button, obviously, controls the number of echoes. The solid-state/tube switch is pretty neat. It imitates both circuitries accurately, though the tube amp setting is a little noisy. To my ears, the warble switch does little to the resulting sound, but I have not fiddled with this unit much so I may be missing something. The slider is easy to use with your feet, as is the other knobs. I haven't messed around with the SOS feature, so I can't tell you about that. I will warn you though, the pedal does not come with a AC adapter. It comes with a 9-volt battery. This thing gobbles them up to so you might want to order an AC adapter with your pedal. I would definitely recommend this unit to someone who wants to imitate the sound of the old tape delay units. It is quite fun to mess around with, and takes some time to figure out. But when you do get it sounding good, this thing is a blast!!!

After using an echoplex for years, and putting out bucks for the tape cartridges (now close to $40), I only dreamed of a product such as the reel echo. It really does what the old echoplex does without the mess! The only thing you can't seem to do is make the wild sounds from pushing the slider back and forth, a la jimmy page in those endless zep solos. I don't miss them that much.

There's nothing like it on the market. The ability to roll off the HF on the echo repeats is magical, as it prevents the delayed signal from competing with your main signal. Of course this is the magic of the tape units, but this does a fine job of replicating the effect, and you cannot argue with the price. The only other option is to use a plug-in like Logic's Tape Echo, but that's not gonna work for gigging. So unless you want to open up the world of hurt that is a vintage tape echo, you better buy this. The case is bulletproof, but the knobs are a bit flimsy. Yes, you need to buy the Danelectro power adapter. As for the manual, there is nothing you need to know that isn't on the sheet of paper that ships with the box.Very happy.

I have been interested in this unit since it was introduced, but dragged my feet. That was a mistake. This unit is hands down the best emulation of tape echo I have found. I am a fan of the Line 6 Echo Pro, mainly for their tube echo and I like their tape echo emulation, it has great control and is very tweakable, locks to time etc, but it can't compare to the vibe, character or musical quality of the Reel Echo. This is the only unit I have found that makes ADT sound like the real thing. Despite minimal controls and limited headroom, this is a must buy if you want that sweet vintage echo on vocals.
