The title says it all. I owned both Boss distortion pedal and this one and I don't hear any difference. Only difference is that these little things are made of plastic (you won't be able to break it if you're less than 500 IBS) Do yourself a favor and DON"T pay 5 times or more money... I can't believe how affordable these things are!!!
I like the light distortion/overdrive sound that you can get by turning the distortion down to 2 or 3 on this unit. The higher distortion from this box does not do it for me; but I think in this case the tonal characteristic that makes it sound good light, does not sound good heavy. For the price pick one up.
This puppy is the elite among the bargain priced boxes. It'll crunch, warm up or scream even at low volumes. A little noisy but easy to clean up. It's sturdy enough if you're acting grown up.
My pedal came with a manual, and a 1 year warranty. The pedal has 3 different nobs:tone, Distortion, and Level. It has a very luminous LED that lights up as a violet color when the pedal is activated. It has input and output jacks at the back. The pedal also has a battery compartment, and a place to plug in an adapter. The footswitch is rather small, but if you want to use it during a concert, keep your foot on it because there is a chance of accidently missing it! Overall, plenty of features. The pedal has its unique sound. The pedal can go from blues to metal distortion. It is never fuzzy, it's smooth at a bass tone setting, and is very metallic at higher distortion levels at a higher tone setting. However, when the pedal is on high distortion mode, the distortion gets suppressed when adjusted to the bass tone level. Thats why I tend to use my amps gain and tone with this pedal. The pedal is surprisingly quiet. In addition, it doesn't produce that much crackling noise at a high distortion level. It is very strong and durable. It's made of very hard plastic, and the bottom is made of rubber and metal. The nobs seem like they will stay on. In addition, this pedal is great for travelling!I never regretted buying this pedal. And I will always use it because of its versatility. Other pedals you can get are Fab Metal, and Fab Overdrive. This one deserves a high 5!!!!
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this from Music 123. I've owned other Danelectro pedals; some suited me and some didn't. But I've got say with the Fab distortion the Danelectro folks have captured something very nice in a very small package. It's versatile, from light overdrive to full on distortion. Excellent bass response, a very full sound. It compares nicely to a tube preamp pedal I've got, and for a whole lot less. The case is plastic, which might be a problem for the heavy footed sort, but I have a light touch so it should hold up well for me.
