The Conn 11DS is a great all around horn. It blows so freely and responds so quickly, it is as if the horn plays itself. The tone tends to get a little bright and edgy with increased volume, but that is to be expected from yellow brass. The over all tone is surprisingly warm and open for a yellow brass horn though and is warmer than most rose brass horns I have played. The Conn 11DS is a great "symphony" horn that I would recommend for students or professionals of any age.
Conn's 11DR is BRILLIANT. There is no other way to describe it! It definitely has a more open tone than the 10D, and has a pretty impressive range (it can actually go quite louder than i expected it would!). I would strongly recommend it, especially for high school hornists who have the air to back up their playing!
