I purchased my R-13 as my 2nd horn, and there is no way I could go back to any plastic one unless for marching. The tone quality is superb and it plays like an expert, even though the player might not be one, yet. I would recommend this instrument to anyone interested in purchasing a new one.
I Purchased the R13 in March of 2005. I had played on both R13 models (Greenline and Original) and my preference was the Original R13 model. The Greenline is just as exceptional as the original, and it is really a personal preference. The Greenline is probably more preferred up here in Alaska, due to the constant changes in temperature, but I found that the Greenlines composite body didn't produce that gorgeous "Crack", as I like to call it (I think all of you pros out there know what I mean), that the solid wood instruments make when in the lower register. I'm told when fabricated right, the R13 is the optimal clarinet on the market. Not to mention that I believe that the bore of my clarinet is oddly wide compared to the other students here, (all have Buffets). I guess luck played a part.. but Make sure you break in your clarinet if its solid wood. (ask an experienced CLARINETIST about break in habits)
I got my R13 a little under a year ago when I began playing with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony. I have never had any problems with it and am so pleased with my purchase. The low register is warm and full and the high notes come our easily and clearly. I highly reccommend this clarinet for anyone looking to purchase a wooden clarinet. I can't imagine ever owming another brand of clarinet other than the R13.
This clarinet is the BEST! I've had it for about a year. Nothing can go wrong with this clarinet. I've been playing on the plastic Buffet B-12 from 4th grade up until sophomore year. Last year, as a junior, for my birthday, received this clarinet. I was so excited I played it right away. If you want a top of the line clarinet, the R-13 is the way to go.THANK YOU BUFFET FOR MAKING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CLARINET.
