I have this clarinet and I love it.
I was pleased with the sound and tone quality of the clarinet when I first got it, but after having it for not even 6 months, it developed a crack in it. I had not even had the E 11 through any of the winter months, but it still cracked despite the excellent care I take of it. I got it repaired, and it works fine now. Another complaint I have is the fact that my thumb rest broke and I had to wait almost a month before the correct parts could be shipped and fixed. The final complaint I have is the tone quality of certain notes, especially open B flat. Overall the E 11 has been decent, but as I am progressing, I feel a R 13 would be better suited for me.
This is a beautifully made instrument, with a mellow, even tone in all registers. I have been playing on this instrument for 2 years and i would recommend it to an clarinetist of any standard. The only flaw is the buffet mouthpiece which is unsuitable for both jazz and classical music.
I have just received my Buffet E-11 Clarinet and before the delivery man asked me to "sign here", I was already putting cork grease on! I was going to get another brand of intermediate clarinet when my woodwind instructor told me about the Buffet line of wood clarinets. My teacher plays a R-13 and that was way out of my budget, so he recommended an E-11 for the time being, then I can upgrade later. I can truly say that the E-11 company has come a long way from my B-12. However I still keep my B-12 for pep band and outdoor performances. I know you are only supposed to play for short periods of time to break the wood in, but I just couldn't put it down. Its hard for me to say, but I kinda neglected my other clarinet, but NO ONE will put their fingers on my brand new E-11. Now I just need to get my 5RV Lyre and I'll be all set.
I recently purchased an E11 to replace my other clarinet. Not only is there the obvious difference between a plastic and a wood clarinet, the smooth key action, the dark, warm tone, and the fullness of the sound. I am able to play all different styles of music with this clarinet, but I do have one minor gripe about it- on every model I have tried, the low C# comes out sounding very airy, and I lose all tone quality. This clarinet is a great choice for the professional on a budget or the aspiring student, as well as anywhere in between.
