For under $200, Dr. Rhythm is a great value. The pre-set styles with bass lines are great to jam with. The sound quality is superb. It is difficult to learn to use, particularly when programming your own songs. Plan to spend a lot of time with the manual. The payoff is worth it.
I am finding the programing a bit difficult. Main problem is the changes and getting them set right. I also find it difficult to select a preset style that works without some type of adjustment. Tempo is easy to set. I will be purchasing at least 1 foot switch. I am not sure if the latching or non latching switch is the best for my needs. I may end up getting the 2 foot switches in the end as 1 will start/stop programs the other switches from verse to verse.
I like simplicity in the divices I use at home and on gigs. This Boss drum machine is by far and away the most uncomplicated and easy to use "on the fly" type of unit on the market. In auto mode, it goes through four variations with fills to give a 'live" drummer vibe while you are jamming. When you are about done with the jam, press "ending," and it wraps up your song with a fill and stop very nicely. Has plenty of musical bags from jazz to reggae to hip hop. You can add the bass feature too. I tend to leave that off and add a bass guitar while using this Boss unit for recording purposes. The compression and ambience are excellent, and you can record your tracks with plenty of room on board for storage. The quality of the drum sounds are great and you will be satisfied. For the price, you can't go wrong.
The machine is creative as you are! I found it a great friend to jam with. You don't have to feed it, give it drinks, or smoke. It rocks!
