Pros: Great tube distortion, very tweekable, built like a tank. Doesn't suck your tone when dis-engaged. Cons: Expensive and noisy when effect is engaged. Clean/Crunch setting has to be changed w/ finger, not foot. Gain/level settings are easily lost due to knobs being stacked. The HT is a great pedal in terms of overdrive and distortion, but the feedback noise on channel 2 is out of control. I had to buy a HUSH pedal to quiet the HT...and there is still a lot of noise. The noise when using single coils is almost unbearable. The HT is a bit quieter w/ humbuckers (as I would expect) but there is still an annoying amount of feedback.
I purchased this unit to replace my Mesa Boogie V Twin preamp pedal that was out for repair. I like this Blackstar every bit as much and it is half the cost. It sounds like the MB with the tube complement and the Blackstar has a more common sense operation. It also has another feature where it has 2 modes of saturation as well as the 2 levels of distortion. However, the saturation modes are not foot-switchable. It also has a tone-like knob in addition to the eq controls. This allows for the coloration of the sound to be Marshal like or more Mesa. This is a great pedal. The only concern I have is that it is made in Korea, I do not know if it will provide 15 years of almost trouble free daily use as has the V Twin.
