This amp is a steal for the money. It's got a switchable pentode/triode selector and 3-band EQ controls and great fit & finish on the exterior. The build quality is surprisingly good in this price range, with a solid cabinet, oversized resistors and a very heavy circuit board. To me, the EL84 and 12AX7 tubes sound pretty good out of the box, but others that I've talked to about these amps have switched them out have mentioned a noticable improvement in tone. In any case, I find the 3-watt mode is exactly what I need at home, going from clean to greasy at family-friendly volumes. I put a Maxon compressor in front of it with my Peavey Wolfgang and whoa, the tone and sustain were tasty indeed. Bottom line? With a very reasonable street price, you'll either have a nice, rock solid low wattage tube amp to use as is, or a bullet proof platform to build on. Definitely worth a look.
Only 5W, but it sounds like more. Has a really nice clean tone, especiallly with single coils or neck humbuckers. Have to crank it up a little bit to get some of that natural tube distortion, but if your not overly worried about volume you can get some nice thick overdrive blowing your eardrums out. The built in speaker is pretty decent, the cabinet itself is very sturdy, and the EQ adds a lot of flexibility. A master volume or built in attenuator/power soak is about the only thing that would make this better. There is no effects loop, but I imagine that it will take pedals into the guitar input with no problem. For the money I don't think that you can find a better combination of sound and features with the same quality.
If your thinking of going to all tube but your on a budget like i am, This would be your best bet! The quality is outstanding and the sound is just as great! I have only been playing for about 2 years, so its sort of a challenge for me to identify and describe a certain tone. I was always skeptical about all tube amps, but this one made a beleaver out of me. This thing has enough punch to give your future kids black eyes and, has great bass response. The EQ is very sensitive so its not hard to dial in your tone. is unbelievably loud!! The only thing i would change about it is a gain knob, other than that this amp is perfect. Don't hesitate, just buy one it will amaze you!
