  • * Bach fluegelhorn mouthpieces are regularly stocked in those model numbers marked with an asterisk in the chart (all other standard Bach trumpet rim sizes are available on special order). They have identical rims, but deeper, fluegelhorn-style cups, a larger throat and backbore. The deeper cups produce a dark tone of lyric quality. Their fundamental component is intense; the upper partials are reduced to a minimum. Do not attempt to play fluegelhorn with a refitted cornet or trumpet mouthpiece as you will be more likely to play out of tune and not get the rich sound characteristic of the fluegelhorn.

I've played a new Bach 7C for trumpet, old small letter 7C-FL Flugelhorn piece, and small letter Mt Vernon trumpet mouthpiece. I personally, think the older pieces have a nicer feel and prefer those to the new ones (rim has less "bite"). I also recommend Schilke and Stork, in general, their new pieces work better for me (range, tone)and are more comfortable then the new Bach ones (I play with smaller pieces, so can't fairly rate larger pieces like the Bach 1C).

This is by far the best mouthpiece I've ever used. I personally own 5: 1c, 3c, 5c, 7c, and 5sv, which is my favorite size. All of these have brought me superior tone, quality, and range. A must have for any trumpeter.

I play on a few Bach mouthpieces 3C, 5C, 5C gold plated, and 7C. I was pretty happy with the results. One particular bother though was that the 3C has an extremely sharp bite, so when I play it wears down my chops faster. The 5C gold plated on the other hand is an excellent orchestral mouthpiece with a nice vibrant, full sound. Bach mouthpieces are great, affordable mouthpieces that will work from Beginner to Pro.

I have played every brand out there from the most expensive to the least. Every size, cup depth, rim contour, throat size, backbore, overall mass etc. I always come back to the Bach 1 series (1C, 1 1/4C, 1 1/2C). In my recording work the best sound is always on Bach. As I compare the basic design of Bach to other brands it is obvious that Bach mouthpieces tend to have a more rounded rim (especially on the standard models) also, cup shapes favor a more open throat entrance and are generally deeper than most other manufacturers. Example: compare a Bach 7E to practically any other maker's design and you'll see how Bach's version of a shallow cup is much deeper. Of course, there are a few exceptions to this. What all this means to me is that I will have a more beautiful tone with more flexibility and potential for musical expression on Bach than anything else.
