The results of a Mega Tone mouthpiece may possibly vary depending on the instrument. It supposedly darkens the tone, but on my Stradivarius, it actually makes the fundamental pitch slightly louder, without affecting the overtones, thus making the sound a little punchier. (I compared the sound between a regular Bach 1-1/2C and a Mega Tone 1-1/2C.) I don't know if that has something to do with my "Sterling Plus" bell or not. Nevertheless, the sound quality is slightly improved, and the larger throat (.147" vs .141") helps me out by reducing the resistance. For those people, however, who would like a larger throat without paying the higher cost of the Mega Tone, some regular-style Bach mouthpieces also have larger throats, like the 5V, the 5MV, and the 5SV.

I play a MegaTone 1C for 7 years now and I'm still getting compliments about my tone-quality/sound.One pro asked me one time if I played the solo on a flugelhorn! That's what I call a wanted sound (for me!)I use it most the time for symphonic pieces...sometimes heavy/rock pieces with our orchestra...but all the times it fit's into the group!Ok.....I switched from a standard VB 1C to this MegaTone 1C....I could recommend it...but you have to train a little bit to make the mouthpiece yours. (in the beginning you have to work harder because you get more resistance)

For me the 1 1/2 C has great responsiveness and fitting for the different types of playing I do. I love the feel of the mouthpiece I prefer Yamaha horns but I love Bach's mouthpieces.

I purchased the Bach Mega Tone 1E mouthpiece for my (B)flat trumpet, and the initial differentiation I noticed was that I was able to put a lot more air through my instrument. Then, everything else worked like a well oiled machine. I love to play and squeal out notes that challenge my playing ability. This mouthpiece helps for notes above quad. "C", but gives surprisingly good tone quality in the pedal notes. A must buy! The gold plated version offers a slightly darker tone. Recommended to anybody, beginners and experts alike.

I love these mouthpieces! They are twice the normal mass of the regular mouthpiece. Which makes you play, louder, have better tone quality, and it feels much better. So I consider them a good buy. I also recommend heavy valve caps with this item.
