The LR models have a very quick response, but can still sound very big and dark in an orchestral setting. I would suggest the 72 bell for an orchestra. It has a huge sound that resonates well. The reverse lead pipe makes the horn very free-blowing. I find that my high register is also more secure with it.
I received my Bach S180LR 37 bell on Friday. I played a church wedding with it on Saturday, and was amazed at the projection and ease of playing. Everything slots extremely well, and the upper register easily speaks out. I have not been a fan of the traditional Bach Strad, but this is so free blowing and easy to play-its a revelation.
This is the best trumpet ever. Before I bought it, I got many recommendations on which trumpet I should buy. My private teacher, who was Stravinski's lead trumpeter, recommended that I buy this trumpet. And since the prices are so good at WWBW, you may as well buy a Stradivarius. Even if you don't get the LR180, stick with a Strad.
The LR180S37 Medium large bore was a fantastic buy for me, a regular player of jazz and big band music. And here is why: It is debatable whether the reversed construction of the lead pipe makes playing any easier although theoretically it should and certainly does not detract from the instrument in any way, but the selling point is the lightweight body. I personally couldn't believe the difference the change in weight of the trumpet was and the advertised "quick response of the lightweight model" was not wrong either. The smooth valves are praiseworthy of the design and can be lowered by adding an extra layer of fabric if need be. Negative points concerning the trumpet would be the short third valve slide characteristic of the Bach strad but this is a minor qualm. Despite the fact it looks nicer, I would strongly suggest the silver finish as the sonority of the sound seems far improved over its brass counter-part. I would recommend the trumpet for any advanced players who seek a fantastic all round trumpet with great intonation of the higher register. Players with a more mellow sound might seek a lighter bell, possibly the Bach strad LT180 or the Vindabonna, as the sound produced can be dark at times. The model 37 is an ideal starting point and would be recommendable to first time buyers but more experienced players may choose the larger models.
I bought a back strad in 7th grade this is the best horn i ever played
