Before I was using a digi 001 w/ protools LE with my oram octasonic pres. The sound quality with the ensemble is NOTICABLY superior- everything is cleaner and more up front. There is essentially zero noise with this thing- first time I went to listen to playback I had to check to make sure the speakers were on because it was so quiet until the part came up. If you are looking to take the "blanket" off of your recordings, than this is what you want. The ensemble is all about clean, transparent sound which is definitely what you get- whatever you hear in the room is the sound that will come out (depending on your microphones). I like the transparency of the pres on the ensemble because you can always pair them with a tube mic or pre for flavor (and post eq/compression). The only thing that bums me out a little bit is that I have come to realize that I prefer the pro tools software much more than logic (the layout is not the greatest and my biggest problem is not supporting vst- seriously, get with the program).. still trying to get used to it but for being able to use the ensemble it's well worth the switch. I had it up and running with logic in less than 5 minutes- it's ridiculously simple.
