Why Buy

What could be hotter? Already an industry standard, the new Aphex 204 Aural Exciter with Optical Big Bottom is one of those must-have processors that no rig should be without. The 204 delivers increased presence, depth, and clarity to your recording, mixing, and mastering projects, and does it all with little or no increase in peak output. The Aural Exciter's patented processes restore natural brightness through dynamic harmonic enhancement.
  • Aural Exciter:
  • Increased presence and clarity
  • Restore natural brightness
  • Greater perceived loudness
  • Improved detail and intelligibility
  • Big Bottom:
  • Deeper, more resonant bass
  • Little or no increase in peak output
  • Tighter bass articulation
  • Extended low frequencies

For Recording, Mixing and Mastering
The Aural Exciter restores the subtle nuances that are often damaged in the recording process. Its patented Transient Discriminate Harmonics Generator determines which parts of the signal need harmonic enhancement while other "enhancers" do not have this intelligence, making their effect much less musical. The effect creates more space around each element of the mix and greater overall dimensionality. Additionally, the Big Bottom gives more and deeper bass without overloading the recording medium. Also, record your stereo masters, CDs, and car tapes through the Model 204 - they will sound better no matter what the source or where you play them back, this even applies to heavily bit rate reduced audio sources such as MP3 files.

For Live Sound
The Model 204 will improve the performance of just about any sound system. It will extend the apparent response at both ends of the spectrum and will increase the width and uniformity of high frequency dispersion. The " dead spots" are filled in without "hyping" the high end. The Big Bottom increases low frequency density - greater loudness with no increase in peaks. This process, unlike multiband compression, does not change the impact of the bass. All this without adding more amps or speakers!

For Broadcasting and Webcasting
Broadcasting and webcasting have limited frequency response and dynamic range. The Aural Exciter and Big Bottom extend high and low frequencies without eating up headroom or causing more limiter action. Broadcasts are louder and more present. Webcasts are cleaner and more natural sounding. The effects are noticeable even on tiny computer speakers.

For Musical Instrument Amplification
The Model 204 improves the detail and articulation of your amplified instrument. The Aural Exciter extends the highs by restoring the natural overtones that are often lost in miking and amplification. Big Bottom extends the lows for bass instruments. These enhancements can help you punch through in a noisy or reverberant room and make your current rig 'big enough' for much larger rooms.

This thing thickens any sound, be it guitar, bass, P.A. system or whatever by discreetly adjusting specific low end frequencies. (like nothing I've ever heard before) My guitar rig sounded fatter with only a slight increase in gain, the Aural Exciter was a little sharp for my taste, so I kept the exciter settings low. Overall, I can see how this unit would improve any sound rig. I

This processor really fattens the bottom end. I was skeptical at first, but now I praise the aural exciter. The optical big bottom gives you plenty more bass with less volume. It seems like its louder but it's more or less just more bass. It really replaces harmonics that are missing. The exciter section is tricky to use, and can make you sound too harsh so you have to be careful when dialing in for your high end frequencies. All in all, this is possibly the greatest live sound processor you could ever add to your sound rig no matter what it is, and it's also worth every penny and then some. We operate on a slight budget sometimes, and now there's no reason to replace these subs with bigger ones even when we're playing shows to 500 people. Less equipment strain, less muscle strain, and less wallet strain! Don't hesitate.

This is a great piece. If you are thinking about buying it you should you will not regret that you did. I work in the studio and when I got this and started using it in the mastering process it really made the difference in having a high quality sound and just an okay sound. This baby brings out the bass, mids, and the highs depending on how you adjust the knobs leaving you with a professional crisp sound. I recommend this 100 percent.
