I play this amp six nights a week and its durability and unbelievable power are beyond words. Sound men love its line out capability. Ampeg once again sets the standard of modern amps.
I've owned an SVTPRO-4 for a few years. Actually had it signed by Billy S. himself.. I've had nothing but compliments on the sound this amp puts out with the PR410hlf under it. The first review you read here is from "Cash", he bought one soon after playing through my rig. If you want professional sound, and bone jarring thump, you need to pick one of these up!!
This is an excellent head. Extremely adjustable for any type of music. Very powerful. Can get my Ampeg 610 classic cab to self defeat. The "high" is normally turned down low or off. However, in certain situations, especially with the compressor turned up, the intonation of basses with active electronics actually can go off by 1/2 step, which I can't handle. I think it is due to the 3-tube preamp section. I'm selling mine for a Mesa Bogie. I feel this is a pro setup, and I personally like the bogie 600+ a little better. I love the 610 cab though! Easy to move, nice sliders on the back, nice handle.
I have had mine for 7 years. It is LOUD, but tonally versatile - you can dial up a pretty wide array of sounds if you take the time to learn how it works. Lots of output options, the gain on the XLR out is really handy, and you can biamp it (with another amp, if 1200 watts aren't enough for you).Build quality of mine was TERRIBLE. Lots of cold solder joints inside. The tech who repaired mine the first time actually commented "very shoddy work!" regarding the original soldering. I have fixed joints myself a couple times afterwards. My understanding is that this is common to newer SVTs - it might be worth it to go over the circuit boards and check solder joints. No problems after the repairs, but for the money, I expect durability out of the box.I love this amp, I just wish the quality control at ampeg were a little better.
Excellent sound and power. Have had mine for 3 years and over last 6 months trying to figure out why it would mute itself whenever it felt like it. Eventually, found a dry solder jointon board where insert jack sockets are soldered on, looked like little care was taken assembling this part of the amp.Could get no help from Ampeg trying to figure out problem.Would expect more sturdy construction and customer support from amp in this price.
