This bad boy has the classic Ampeg sound that you would for, and its lighter than the other svt's. Its great for on the road and in the studio, and come on, Les Claypool use's one.

I just bought one of these bad boys. It's my first step up to professional gear in that I have used combo's up until now. The tonal control is amazingly easy to use for a beginner. And the power! Wow! Whether you pick, pluck, finger, slap or tap your bass, you will be amazed at the perfect tone and power of the low end. If you want to sound like the bass gods you worship, this is the head for you. The EQ allows you to personalize your sound and the midrange frequency choices help to make you growl or sing like an angel. There is no other amp as far as I am concerned. It is simply fantastic. The head only weighs around 40lbs which is excellent, but don't forget that a decent cab will be huge. You won't be taking it on a bus to a gig unless you own the bus. My slapping technique has just got better and better due to the amazing sound I can now produce. The mute button is a blessing also for changing bass during a set (down tuning!) The general consensus of opinion within the band and the audience is that the bass cuts without dominating and holds the low end melody so well that folk are no longer telling us to get a rhythm guitarist! Just go try one for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed!

A few months ago I bought this amp head and have been pleased with it ever since. It seems to have a sweet tone with just about any cabinet. I first played it on a Peavey 215, and now have the SVT-610. It's got tons of power to it, and I really like the EQ on it also. It does have a history of being 'heat sensitive'. I live in Phoenix, and so far haven't had a problem with it. All in all an excellent choice.

I have 2 of these amps, each running a Gene Simmons Ampeg 2x15. They are great amps. They have more tubes than any other rack mount amp out there which results in a sweeter tone. It's loaded with handy, modern, features- yet retains the power and tone that Ampeg's are know for. They only weigh about 40 pounds which is easier on the back than the SVT-CL or 2-Pro. The only concern I ever had with mine is regarding the XLR on the back. It seemed like I wasn't getting a good signal to the PA. I found out from Ampeg that If you're not running a lot of gain on the front panel- the XLR signal will be weak, so you may have to turn up the gain to please the soundman at the board. For someone questioning what their 1st Ampeg should be- I highly recommend the 3-Pro. I bought two of them!
