This Amati clarinet plays very well. Its not a beginner clarinet and its not a expert level but right in the middle. It worked out perfectly because I was looking for a wood clarinet and all the other brands were either too cheesy looking or too expensive. I search every store and internet site and this was the best offer. It sounds great, looks great, and the price is great so no complaints.

Well crafted, dark deep tone, excellent key work and very sturdy materials (strong metal on keys/posts, etc). Absolutely on par with other student models by Artley. This is mainstream quality manufacturer.

Don't let the price fool you! I hadn't heard of Amati until around 99 or so, when a good friend of mine bought one. We were both taking clarinet lessons in college - I was a music major, she had a passion for music as a hobby. We were both very impressed with her student horn, as was our professor! When I came across this advanced model, I knew it was a great value! From right out of the packing paper, it played beautifully! The additional keys were a little difficult to get used to, but now make life much easier! For the price, the craftsmanship, sound, and quality, this clarinet cannot be beat!

I've had this clarinet for just over a month now and I've been extremely pleased at how great it sounds as well as the really good keywork. My clarinet teacher had a Selmer with the 19 keys and 7 rings and since I have wanted one. Even though it's not a "Selmer" I was willing to live with it. This clarinet far exceeded my expectations. I currently play an actual Buffet R13 and a Selmer 9*. I'm still working my way around the additional keys (have to adjust to the Ab/Eb paddle key). When I get more adept I will use it full time. I thoroughly enjoy playing it! As in the previous reviews, I found the case a little flimsy. This a minor criticism and doesn't detract from the pleasure of playing this horn.

Compares very favorably to an Buffet E-11. Well regulated (especially in the lower joint); much better tone than I expected for the price. The alternate e-flat key was the selling feature that I wanted, and I am pleasantly surprised by the overall quality. Case could be sturdier, but I can always replace it.
