No need for a big write-up here. TOP quality craftsmanship, super sound, great looks, fast low action, easy to play. Plays and sounds like guitars costing 3-4 times as much.
I picked up a Taylor and fell in love with the tone. The guy at the store showed me an AD71(?), which sounded pretty good, and made me start looking at other Alvarezes. Once I picked up the PD80SC, I knew that was the one, and Music123 provided EXCELLENT service and follow-up after I ordered the guitar.
I've played an old Alvarez for 25 years. I still love it. I learned on it. But it was time for daddy to have a new acoustic/electric 6-string! I looked at every thing out there from Takamine to Taylor. I'll admit I was sold on the Taylor, but my friend called and told me about locating the PD80SC. I felt a loyalty to Alvarez to at least go see it before I made my decision. I LEFT WITH THE ALVAREZ!!!
I love my Alvarez! Sound and appearance. It is above all other brands
Recently started playing again after a 15-year break. This is the third guitar I've owned and I am VERY impressed with it. The construction, fit and finish are truly excellent; she looks classic and beautiful, and plays even better! Fairly fast action, good acoustic projection, and the best tone I've heard in a guitar of its price range. (I could have bought the more expensive rosewood PD90 for the same price, but I liked the warmer tone of the mahogany PD80. Stand out features for me are the solid Engleman spruce top and solid mahogany back, die cast gold tuners, and the 600T Preamp with tuner - which sounds fantastic when plugged into my Sound Blaster Live Drive. I have had no problems with the tuner either, it's quick, simple, and works nearly perfect every time. The more I play this guitar, the more I know I made the right decision. I purchased this over an Ovation (which I had always dreamed of owning) because Ovation's tone is just too bright and crisp - a quality I used to favor, but I guess my tastes have changed over the years. The PD80SC sounds rich, warm, and reasonably bright, plus the natural wood is hands-down more beautiful than the black back and sides of an Ovation. I tried a lot of guitars during my search and for the money, the Alvarez PD80SC was far-and-away the guitar for me! Above all, I love its sound - which is why we play anyway, right? Minor things I'd improve: There is a very slight area on the inside of the sound hole edge that does not have any varnish on it. Remove the "Made in Korea" sticker and gold ink stamp on the back of the head. Write a better owners manual for the powerful 600T Preamp. Include an ownerÆs manual with a care guide for the guitar. I give it five stars because my minor improvements don't affect the sound or performance of this fine instrument.
