I played this guitar with a lot of others at a local music store. I played a 2500 dollar Taylor, and I would choose this guitar.
Just purchased a PD100S NAT, Traded a Fender GD47SCE for it. Both guitars are pretty, but the Alvarez is stunning for the price and fits my large hands better, Fenders have string spacing that is too tight for me. I bought the Alvarez as a backup for my Taylor 2004 414SCE-L7 Limited. The Taylor sounds better hands down, but the Alvarez is easier to look at. The craftsmanship on both is exceptional, so the Taylor might become my studio guitar and the Alvarez might become my play-out guitar, just for the looks alone. At any rate, this is a great guitar for the price, you can't get a comparable Taylor for less than 4x the money. The Alvarez also has a little fret buzz that needs attention, not so of the Taylor, but that is minor.Note: The Alvarez I purchased, does have some very small, minor fish eyes in the finish on the back, you'll NEVER see a Taylor leave the factory like that. And Taylor's website it far more useful, the Alvarez website, just barely meets minimum acceptable standards.
Looks great, sounds great, plays great. I looked at this, a Martin, and a Taylor and this was my pick for the price and the quality
Tone is excellent and will only get richer with the solid woods. Neck feel is effortless and ever so smooth. Tuners hold strong and do not yield. Finish is even and "hardy" (don't know what that really means but best describes MY guitar). Structure will last a lifetime (well at least my lifetime). Visual? The pictures DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE. This is one very pretty guitar and so easy to play. Of course there are a few problems: The head stock had been hit by something (maybe in shipping:who knows?) that resulted in 2 "minor dents". The 6th and 12th frets will need to be adjusted to stop the buzz and I am looking for someone with more skill than I to make the adjustments. For those of you that are looking for an excellent guitar for a great price, I suggest the PD100S. It is a wonderful guitar and well worth the investment. I will be playing this for, well, ever.
I previously wrote a review on the Alvarez PD100S I bought from Music123 that had some problems. Well, I had a certified luthier dress the frets and do a tune up. The luthier told me that the only thing that was wrong with the guitar (after he did his magic for $96.00) was that there was a 16th of an inch difference where the neck and the nut meet. He said he could fix that. But best of all, he said that after looking inside, he couldn't believe that there was no excess glue or frailed wood. He had never seen a factory made guitar that was so well built. He did want to know why, after all the effort put into the body, they didn't take a little more time to dress the frets and action. Regardless, he said it sounded at least as good if not better than most of the Martin's he had played (and I agree). All I can say is MY guitar is wonderful and will be with me forever. Those who want a good deal for a great guitar, should SERIOUSLY look into the PD100S.
