I've always wanted a classical guitar with a good electronic setup for recording purposes. I started doing some research and there are a lot of this type on the market today. However, the question is what is too expensive and what is too cheap. Some guitars of this type pass the $1,000 range and for that price, they must be nice. Others you can find for less that $200. This Alvarez guitar has an excellent price and it has the sound quality of guitars of double its price. If I didn't find this guitar, I would have probably paid over $900 for a Takamine. I was really amazed to see the reviews of this Alvarez because it has a solid top, excellent electronics, 600T system, built in tuner and beautiful finish. I didn't think about it twice and I purchased it. All I read and heard about this guitar was not enough to describe the pleasure to play it. The sound is amazing, the finish is gorgeous and the size is perfect. It gets connected to you so it feels very close to your body. Other guitars, like acoustical ones, have a big box and that's just too uncomfortable. For all this I wanted to give 10 starts but they only allow 5. Maybe I will do another review to make up for the extra 5 . Thanks Alvarez!
This guitar is very well built and has great sound quality. The set-up was fine right out of the box. It has a good sound responsiveness (volume, projection) when used without electronics. The built-in tuner is nice. This is a great value for the money. The tuning mechanism is a bit tight, but that's a small item. I wish I had bought this several years ago. I'm giving it a 5 star rating, based on price vs all-round sound/appearance/playability.
I told myself " How could it be possible that all the reviews are good!?" But I was easily convinced by the many many raves and bought it. After seeing it I just fell in love with it. The finish and workmanship is perfect. I was surprised to see it was made in China as I thought Alvarez was a Japanese company! I could be wrong though... Anyway the guitar does not have a blemish or flaw and is a beauty and looks strongly built with a lot of tender loving care! It makes you feel like the rest you don't see was well crafted as well! As soon as I played it I realized that it is not all esthetic. The guitar sounds great! I play mostly unplugged and it is powerful, better than a lot of other guitar I tried. I just love it! I had a Spanish classical guitar but compare to this Alvarez the sound was a bit tinny. The electronic tuner is such a blessing as well! My guitar came with D'Addario strings and they seem to be made for each other. When I changed the strings as an experiment I tried another brand but I didn't get the result the D'Addario gave me! So will go back to D'Addario. All in all I feel that this guitar is worth more money than I paid for (or should I say that I would need to pay a lot more to get the same quality from another brand)! and that gives you a good feeling as if you got something really precious, a little treasure! It is one of the best purchase I made, ever!
Absolutely excellent quality. Well above average guitar for this price plus great volume unplugged.
I recently received this guitar as a gift and I and really impressed with it. The sound is good, and the pictures do not do the real color justice at all. The craftsmanship of this guitar is outstanding, with good tuners. The pre-amp is the best that Alvarez makes and is really easy to use, and even has its own tuner. The only complaint I have is that the 9-volt battery that came with the guitar was dead, no big deal. You may also want to invest in a nice hard case for it, as it does not come with one.
