I am a professional player. Meaning I really get paid to play my guitar, what a concept. My acoustic guitars are a Martin D16, D28 and a Gibson J200. I needed a Gibson J100 or 185 for G/D tuning slide work. I started playing the J185 when the salesman handed me the Alvarez AJ60SC. The action and feel was fluid. The intonation was right on the money and with a slide it rode right on the frets, perfect. Unplugged the tone is a slight bright but plugged in its full and capable for any gig. This guitar is a understated gem. I recommend it highly. Get it, I did.
I have the 12 string sister of this guitar, but it is not electric, so I use a Bobby Lawrence pick-up if I want loud. The 12 string with nano coated strings sounds like angels playing harps...This 6 string equipped with the same has an awesome sound with major resinence, with or without it being plugged in. I've owned a lot of guitars some of which I don't even remember there names. For the last year or so I've been trying out different guitars. Some of the more expensive guitars have not impressed me. But when saw and played the jumbo Alvarez AJ60SC I bought it. Most guys around here play bluegrass and they play dreadnought guitars so I wanted to be different. The craftsmanship compares to a $2000+ Taylor I tried out. The intonation is crisp and full and the action is really good for an acoustic. The jack was a little tight but over all I was impressed and think it's well worth the money. I love this guitar!
This is probably the best guitar on the market under $1,000.00! Not only is it a great looking guitar, it has great tone and plenty of volume. The workmanship on these guitars is every bit as good as some of the high end American models that we all love. If you are looking for a guitar to just have fun with or an extra for when you are playing for a crowd, this is an awesome choice.
After playing for several months I decided it was time to buy a higher quality guitar than the one I had (Johnson 620). For the price range I set for myself I found I was looking hard at the Martin 00's and 000's. When I went into the store to play the Martin I really enjoyed the playability, but I knew I needed to try other brands to compare sounds. The store owner presented me with the Alvarez AJ60; as soon as I played my first chord I knew this was what I was looking for. The tone is brighter, fuller, and a bit twangier than the Martin. The greatest difference was the consistency between the bass and treble voices. On the Martin they were more detached but on the Alvarez the sound blended almost flawlessly. I also love how light it is and the smoothness of the fretboard, but not so smooth that it's hard to play. It's also tremendously aesthetically pleasing; I can't stop just looking at it. What's more is it sounds like it looks, which blends look, feel, and sound seamlessly. This is a wonderful instrument. If you're in the market for a lower end Martin and want a brighter, fuller sound then take a look at this Alvarez, you won't be disappointed
