Jazz for Young People appreciation curriculum is based on Jazz at Lincoln Center's popular Jazz for Young People concert series, is designed primarily for upper elementary and middle school students. The curriculum explores core concepts - including improvisation, form, style, and swing - and major figures in jazz through accessible, interactive lessons which demonstrate the exuberance, rich cultural heritage and humor inherent in jazz. Included in this complete kit: *A 10-CD set (including one CD-ROM) of newly recorded music performed by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and special guests, with narration by Wynton Marsalis, that explores topics like "What is Bebop?", "Who is Louis Armstrong?"; and "What is the Blues?" *An in-depth Teacher Guide that leads educators step-by-step through each lesson - explaining jazz styles, musical concepts, historical information, and key jazz figures; suggesting participatory activities and cross-curricular links; providing additional resources; and integrating the National Standards for Music Education. *A Set of 30 Student Books that include focused listening guides, fun activities that reinforce musical concepts, and historical summaries, biographies, and photographs that broaden the understanding and appreciation of jazz. *A behind-the scenes video of the curriculum recording session that provides a performance element to further enhance the classroom experience. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with Scholastic Inc. and Sandy Feldstein, PlayinTime Productions, is distributed by Warner Bros. Publications.
