Alesis SR-16 Stereo Drum MachineAs one of the most popular drum machines ever made, the SR-16(TM) has been used by everyone from songwriters to live performers to remix engineers as their drum machine of choice.
The reason is simple: it features a great selection of 233 realistic, natural drum sounds, offered both in dry form and sampled with our incomparable digital reverbs. Alesis' exclusive Dynamic Articulation feature enables a drum sound to change its tonal content as it's played harder for truly realistic performances. The SR-16 features 50 preset patterns that were actually played in by top studio drummers, not just programmed and quantized.
You'll find enough built-in rhythmic variations (with A, B and two Fill sections) for composing complete arrangements, and you can create and save your own customized patterns and songs. The SR-16 also provides complete MIDI implementation, a footswitch input, flexible programming and editing features and velocity-sensitive pad buttons. Plus, it's so easy to use that you'll be up-and-running and composing new music in minutes. Whether you need a songwriting partner or an accompanyist for live performance, turn to the all-time world standard in drum machines: the SR-16.

The Alesis SR16, while easy to use after you READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL, offers an extremely long list of different sounds (233 to be exact), each with its own set of mechanics to change or tweak. The SR16 allows you to actually record yourself while you hit the keys, manual put in the different sounds where you want, or do both, all while you listen and edit as you go along. An excellent piece of studio technology, it has been on the market since 1990.
I bought one of these about 8 years ago. I was just a beginner in writing music, but the SR16 made laying down the percussion tracks very easy. I highly recommend this product. .
I've traveled with the SR16 for 4 years now. I'll give you my pros and cons. Pros: fantastic control live, best I've ever seen. You can count in a tempo on one pedal, and start/end the song with the other. The tempo pedal also lets you mark fill ins and change beats all on the fly. You can also pre record entire songs and play start/stop them with the pedal. Very easy to start and at the same time, more than capable of being a great tool for advanced users.Cons: Few of the kick sounds are good. The beats are outdated and all sound like early 90's rejects. The unit is a pain to back up and crashes every couple months so that the memory is wiped. A buddy of mine bought the zoom unit. The live control isn't as good but the samples on it are fantastic. In short: Live, a dream machine (advances users consider and outside module for better drum sounds) In recording, worthless. (buy the zoom, it's not as user friendly, but it sounds good on a CD)
I just got it and the machine seems real nice and some of the sounds are attractive to me. Only issue. I wish there were a stereo phones out. This model has been around for a long time unchanged but this would be a welcomed addition.
