Recently bought CUBASE software for PC, and this device allows me to control input fully. In addition, I use it with my Roland VS-840 Digital Studio Workstation to record vocals using my overhead condenser mike, it has phantom power. It allows control of effects upfront, not after you have recorded. I can see a use with my sound board during gigs also. A great buy, and a nice tool to have around!
This thing can really put it out. All the effects are of studio quality and they feed back is less than I thought it would be. This is great for drums also. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants an awesome mixer for a blow-out price. Thanks Alesis and music123.
I agree with all the reviews for what it packs around for the money. That one is a big "in your face...Behringer". However, on the practical side, my first FX6 mixer gave me horrible effects feedback after it warmed up for 5 minutes. Worked great at first, then the flanger like demon took over and built upon itself, even WITHOUT the effects section ON. I exchanged the unit. The one I have now still exhibits a low level repeating pattern of fuzz/ crackle, which definitely originates from the effects section. Perhaps the effects just have so much power, that when they're not used, they want to escape. I'll probably exchange that unit for a 3rd one, and see if that does not end up being the charmer.
For starters, the mic-preamps are so-so at best. They do not power and boost a condenser without injecting a lot of noise into the signal. The FX are substandard--a lot of distortion and vary little difference between the various settings. The only way this unit is an improvement is that Alesis at least designed it with an on/off switch.
I bought this from Music 123 about 2 1/2 years ago. I was "upgrading" from my Behringer Eurorack which didn't have effects. The 1st channel broke within 2 weeks; it makes a loud clicking sound, so I was down to only 1 mic input, and 'though it was under warrenty, I couldn't send it off without having to buy another. Channel 2 crapped out this past week. My Behringer, 3 years older, still works perfectly. Guess which brand I'll go with from now on. I will send this unit back to Alesis; if there's a pleasant result, I'll let you know.
