Akai MPC1000 Music Production Center
The Akai MPC1000 Music Production Center is a laptop-sized unit that serves as a portable complement to the MPC2000 and MPC4000 and is a powerful DJ production tool on its own. It has a friendly interface, easy-to-use MIDI sequencer and drum sampler, and velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads for expressive play. Two separate effects processors plus a main-out processor can be used simultaneously. Also has 2x2 pole filters per voice, two Q-link sliders for realtime control, and 16MB capacity expandable to 128MB. It saves and loads data to the included 32MB CompactFlash card and connects to your computer via USB for drag-and-drop convenience. Two MIDI in, two MIDI out ports.

This unit is absolutely the best unit yet that I have performed with. I use it in live settings and I am also planning to take it into the studio soon. I am able to have access to almost all of the functions as a play in real time. Whether it is the mixer or the or the recording options which allows me to program new spur of the moment ideas on stage. This unit is so small I don't have to worry anymore about a separate stand I just place on top of my keyboard and it is right there easily accessible. Plus the same number of pads and all of the functionality of all of the other units before. I'm hooked
